Some comments made in the House Natural Resource committee hearing on HR 1548, the ‘Native American Energy Act’. Here’s committee member, Ms. Colleen Hanabusa (Hawaii), on her concerns about Section 5 of the bill which proposes to LIMIT public comment on energy development and all major federal actions in Indian Country. She describes Section 7 is “ill-advised” since it both penalizes individual tribal members who challenge the potentially significant impacts and also restricts their rights. Hanabusa also noted that tribal officials have already told Congress that tribal nations want their own right to pursue similar actions left unrestricted. This video is about 4 minutes in length and has very short delays from buffering during her comments. Go online to see the entire hearing of this bill including all of Rep. Hanabusa’s comments.
