The Department of Fisheries, Australia has narrowed down potential sites for a proposed aquaculture zone off the mid-west coast in Australia. In 2011, $1.85 million was allocated to creating zones for ocean fish farms, to meet the growing demand for finfish like pink snapper. The first phase of consultation looked at three possible sites for the zones – one north of Geraldton and two near the Abrolhos Islands. Now the department is working issues relating to nutrient pollution.
